Veteran guard Mike James will remain with AS Monaco Basket, choosing to fulfill his contract through 2027 after drawing significant offseason interest from other EuroLeague clubs and several NBA teams, according to Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews.com.
The 35-year-old explored a possible exit earlier this summer when he was suspended for an off-court incident ahead of the French league playoff semifinals, but the dispute has since been settled. Sources told BasketNews that multiple EuroLeague contenders pursued James, while unnamed NBA franchises also monitored his situation.
Although James has appeared in just 49 NBA games over parts of two seasons, he is regarded as one of Europe’s premier guards. He captured the EuroLeague MVP award in 2024 and guided Monaco to its first EuroLeague championship game in 2025, where the club fell to Fenerbahce.
The 6’1” point guard averaged 15.8 points, 5.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals across 34 EuroLeague contests last season, logging 29.1 minutes per game. He has earned All-EuroLeague honors in each of the past four seasons with Monaco, securing two first-team and two second-team selections.
