The New Orleans Pelicans have added veteran coach Mike Hopkins to Willie Green’s staff as an assistant coach and head of player development, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on August 5.

Hopkins, 55, spent the 2024-25 season with the Phoenix Suns as an assistant under head coach Mike Budenholzer. Before moving to the NBA, he served as head coach at the University of Washington from 2017 through 2024, compiling a 122-111 record and guiding the Huskies to one NCAA Tournament appearance.

The California native built the bulk of his résumé at Syracuse University, working on Jim Boeheim’s bench from 1995 to 2017. Hopkins, a former Syracuse guard, was widely viewed as Boeheim’s coach-in-waiting before accepting the Washington job.

In New Orleans, he joins a staff that already features associate head coach James Borrego and assistants Jarron Collins, Casey Hill, Aaron Miles, Corey Brewer and Jodie Meeks.
