Mike Conley poised for Timberwolves reunion

Veteran guard Mike Conley is expected to re-sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves once he clears waivers, according to multiple league sources cited by ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Conley, 38, was dealt twice in rapid succession before Thursday’s trade deadline. Minnesota first moved his $10.8 million expiring contract to the Chicago Bulls in a cap-saving transaction. Chicago then sent him to the Charlotte Hornets, who immediately waived him.
Because the final team to trade Conley was Chicago, NBA rules allow him to return to Minnesota after the waiver period ends. Conley will officially clear waivers on Saturday, though the Timberwolves could wait to finalize a new minimum-salary deal to avoid moving closer to the luxury-tax line.
Now in his 19th season, Conley has seen his on-court role shrink; he relinquished his starting spot earlier this year and is posting career-low statistics. Even so, team officials have long valued his leadership and influence in the locker room—a key reason Minnesota was hesitant to include him in deadline talks.
Assuming he re-signs, Conley would provide backcourt depth and veteran guidance for a Timberwolves team currently navigating the Western Conference playoff chase.
