The Memphis Grizzlies are again evaluating whether to keep Ja Morant at the center of their long-term plans or reopen trade talks, ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported.
Memphis briefly explored deals for the 24-year-old guard before February’s trade deadline, according to previous reporting by Shams Charania, but no agreement was reached. League observers now anticipate those conversations could restart during the offseason.
Morant’s 2023-24 campaign ended early because of an elbow injury, limiting him to 20 games. Over the past three seasons, he has appeared in just 79 contests, and his recent production has fallen short of his All-Star peak.
The franchise’s direction also factors into the decision. At the deadline, the Grizzlies moved on from Jaren Jackson Jr., signaling a strategy focused on a younger core. Morant is owed roughly $87 million across the next two seasons, a commitment that must align with any rebuild timeline.
Memphis owns three picks in the top 31 of the upcoming draft, giving the front office additional flexibility to reshape the roster quickly. Whether Morant remains the centerpiece of that blueprint—or becomes part of the next roster move—remains the organization’s primary question.
