New York Knicks guard Miles McBride was forced out of Sunday’s 112-101 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder after seemingly aggravating his groin in the third quarter, just one game into his comeback from sports hernia surgery.

The setback occurred when McBride landed on Thunder wing Luguentz Dort while both players dove for a loose ball. The 25-year-old had missed the previous 28 contests following December surgery.

“I haven’t talked to medical yet, so I don’t know how bad it is. But it’s tough,” head coach Mike Brown told reporters. “He’s worked his tail off to be back… you felt his presence. It made us deeper.”

McBride went 0-for-3 from the field in 11 minutes before departing. Brown had highlighted the fifth-year guard’s value before tip-off, calling him “one of our best on-ball defenders” and praising his outside shooting and versatility.

Despite appearing in only 36 games this season, McBride is posting career highs with 12.5 points in 27.5 minutes per night while shooting 43.0% overall and 41.5% from three-point range.

No immediate timetable was provided after the game, but teammate Jalen Brunson voiced confidence in McBride’s recovery. “He’ll be back. He works too hard,” Brunson said.

In other injury news, veteran guard Landry Shamet will accompany the team on its upcoming two-game trip to Houston and Memphis. Shamet has missed four straight games with a bone bruise in his right knee.
