The Dallas Mavericks continue to listen to offers for center Anthony Davis ahead of the February 5 trade deadline, but the organization does not feel compelled to move him and is comfortable carrying the veteran into the offseason, according to Marc Stein.

Davis, 32, is recovering from ligament damage in his left hand and has appeared in just 29 games since Dallas acquired him last February.

Roster flexibility

Dallas remains open to dealing Davis, Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson and D’Angelo Russell, Stein reports. However, the front office is unwilling to part with forwards Naji Marshall or Max Christie.

Bucks’ brief pursuit of Russell

The Milwaukee Bucks explored acquiring Russell earlier in the season, but talks stalled when the guard declined to waive his $6 million player option for 2026/27. League sources told Stein the Bucks wanted Russell to hit free agency this summer and re-sign for the veteran minimum. The discussions took place before Milwaukee began fielding offers for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Nowitzki’s role remains open-ended

Franchise legend Dirk Nowitzki has been in regular contact with team governor Patrick Dumont, and the Mavericks are eager for their all-time leading scorer to rejoin the organization in any capacity he prefers. For now, Nowitzki is focused on his studio work with Prime Video and his duties as a FIBA board member and global ambassador.

Search for lead executive

Dumont is seeking an experienced executive to head basketball operations, but the search is not expected to intensify until the spring. The club intends to have the position filled before June’s draft. Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi are currently serving as co-interim general managers.
