The NBA has levied a $25,000 fine against Dallas Mavericks forward Khris Middleton for hurling his mouthpiece toward the spectator area, the league said Friday in an official release.
The incident took place with 6:55 left in the third quarter of Thursday’s game against the Orlando Magic at Amway Center. Middleton, frustrated by the absence of a foul call after losing the ball while guarded by Jalen Suggs, flung the mouthpiece near the Dallas bench. It landed in front of a courtside fan and slid toward assistant coach Jay Triano.
Officials assessed a technical foul on the 34-year-old at the time of the infraction, carrying an additional $2,000 penalty. Thursday night, Middleton finished with 19 points and seven assists but committed six turnovers in the Mavericks’ 106-105 defeat.
Middleton is earning $33.3 million in the final year of his contract, so the financial hit is not expected to affect him significantly.
