The Dallas Mavericks said Monday that center Dereck Lively II is seeking additional medical opinions to determine the best course of action for the swelling and discomfort in his right foot.

Lively, selected 12th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, has not played since the Mavericks’ Nov. 21 game against the New Orleans Pelicans. The affected foot is the same one that required surgery during the offseason.

Reporter Marc Stein noted last week that Dallas feared the 7-footer could be sidelined for an extended stretch. The club subsequently announced a minimum absence of seven to 10 days, and Monday’s update is the first since that timeframe was issued.

The third-year big man appeared in Dallas’ first three games of the season, missed the next nine with a right knee sprain, and then suited up for four of the following six contests. He sat out the other two games in that span—which were both ends of back-to-back sets—before the foot issue resurfaced.

The team did not provide a timetable for Lively’s return while he gathers further evaluations.
