The Dallas Mavericks said Monday that forward Anthony Davis will remain sidelined for a minimum of seven to 10 more days as he continues to rehab a strained left calf.
The club noted that a fresh evaluation showed “good progress,” but added that another medical check will not take place until late next week at the earliest.
“He wants to play. He’s doing everything to get back,” head coach Jason Kidd told reporters, according to the Dallas Morning News. “This gives him seven to 10 days to get better, and hopefully he’s back on the floor.”
Team governor Patrick Dumont has advocated a cautious timetable, hoping to minimize any chance of the injury flaring up again, league sources said.
Limited action this season
Davis has appeared in just five games since joining Dallas, and the Mavericks have gone 2–3 in those contests. He is averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks while shooting 49.3 percent from the field.
The 30-year-old big man has missed the last nine games after leaving the Oct. 29 win in Indiana with the calf issue. Without him, the Mavericks are 2–8, including Sunday’s overtime victory against Portland that nudged their overall record to 4–10.
Dallas opens a three-game road trip Wednesday in Phoenix. If Davis meets the shortest end of the projected recovery window, the earliest possible return would be the Nov. 27 home game against Memphis.
