The Dallas Mavericks have released second-year forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper and will apply the NBA’s stretch provision to his $3 million 2024-25 cap hit, multiple reports said Friday.

By invoking the provision, Dallas will spread the charge over three years at roughly $1 million per season. The move also eliminates the club’s $5.3 million team option on Prosper for 2026-27.

The Mavericks had explored trade options for the 23-year-old ahead of Friday’s stretch deadline but were unwilling to attach one of their two remaining second-round picks to move the contract, according to the reports.

Freeing Prosper’s spot creates the cap room needed to finalize Dante Exum’s veteran minimum deal, agreed to on July 2. Exum now occupies the 15th and final standard roster slot under the league’s second tax apron.

Prosper, the No. 24 overall selection in the 2023 draft, appeared in 92 games for Dallas, averaging 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10 minutes per night. The 6-foot-8 Montreal native also spent time with the G League’s Texas Legends, where he averaged 18.3 points and 7.8 rebounds as a rookie.

Prosper will become an unrestricted free agent if he clears waivers and is expected to draw interest from other teams.
