Dallas Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont has begun collecting background information on prospective front-office leaders after removing Nico Harrison last month, according to reporter Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Dumont is in no hurry to name a permanent general manager. Stein notes that the organization is comfortable running the rest of the season with a committee structure. Assistant governor Michael Finley and executive Matt Riccardi share the interim GM title, while minority owner Mark Cuban, head coach Jason Kidd, and Dumont all weigh in on personnel matters. Since Harrison’s departure, Dumont has taken a far more active role in day-to-day decisions, Stein adds.
Trade-deadline dilemma
The group’s chief question before the trade deadline is whether to part with center Anthony Davis. Stein reports that a deal is not considered inevitable. Management is wary of rushing into an agreement that could amplify issues created by last season’s blockbuster involving Luka Doncic and is determined to avoid accepting a sub-par return.
