Dallas — The Mavericks are signaling patience publicly, yet rival executives have been told the club is open to trade talks involving several high-profile veterans, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

Charania’s report states that Dallas is prepared to listen on Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford and D’Angelo Russell if compelling offers emerge. While the Mavericks prefer to evaluate their roster when fully healthy, teams across the league are proceeding as though those players can be obtained.

Potential Suitors for Davis

The Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks are among the franchises expected to pursue Davis, who is viewed by some front offices as a possible piece to push an Eastern Conference contender over the top. Dallas has also indicated it would consider a contract extension should Davis remain; the forward becomes eligible for a four-year, $275 million deal this summer.

Contract Situations for Other Targets

• Thompson is earning $16.6 million this season and has expressed a preference to finish his career with a title contender.

• Gafford’s recent extension contains provisions that allow him to be traded before the deadline.

• Russell is in the first season of a two-year taxpayer mid-level contract that includes a player option for 2024-25.

Although Dallas has yet to commit to a definitive course before the trade deadline, league source activity indicates that conversations are intensifying as front offices gauge the Mavericks’ appetite for change.
