The Dallas Mavericks have been attempting to obtain the New Orleans Pelicans’ 2026 first-round draft pick from the Atlanta Hawks, according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated. The pick landed in Atlanta through a previous trade, and league sources say Dallas has been targeting it for an extended period.
Dallas and Atlanta have also discussed scenarios involving forward Anthony Davis, though talks have not advanced. Team sources indicate the Mavericks want any Davis deal to include at least one significant young player, with Hawks wing Zaccharie Risacher viewed internally as a preferred option. Whether Atlanta is willing to put Risacher in a package remains uncertain, and executives around the league describe the Hawks’ stance as cautious.
Financial Considerations
Davis carries a substantial salary commitment. He is earning $54.1 million this season, can sign a four-year maximum extension worth up to $275 million in August, and holds a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign. Sources told the Dallas Hoops Journal that the eight-time All-Star intends to seek an extension with the Mavericks if he stays—or with any team that acquires him.
The Hawks are reportedly open to hearing offers for guard Trae Young, but Dallas has shown no interest in including Young in a Davis framework, league insiders said.
With the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaching, the Mavericks are evaluating every avenue, including adding draft capital, while deciding whether pursuing Davis is the right path.
