The Dallas Mavericks’ front-office turnover may soon be followed by significant player movement. According to Ashish Mathur of the Dallas Hoops Journal, forward Anthony Davis and guard Klay Thompson have been informed there is a strong possibility they will be dealt as the organization reshapes its roster under newly elevated executives Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi.
Neither veteran holds a no-trade clause, giving Dallas flexibility as it explores options. Davis is earning $54.1 million this season, while Thompson’s salary stands at $16.7 million.
Injuries and Production
Davis, acquired last season in the blockbuster that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, has appeared in just 14 games for Dallas. When available, he has averaged 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals. However, the 32-year-old has played only five games in 2023-24 and remains sidelined with a left calf strain. He also reported to training camp at 268 pounds, roughly 15 pounds above his final listed weight in Los Angeles.
Thompson, 35 in February, is recording a career-low 9.4 points per game on 33.8 percent shooting. Head coach Jason Kidd moved the five-time All-Star to the bench after seven contests.
Team Direction
The Mavericks sit at 4-11, 13th in the Western Conference. League sources believe Finley and Riccardi favor a full rebuild centered on rookie Cooper Flagg, who is averaging 15.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
With Dallas eyeing a reset, rival teams are expected to inquire about Davis, Thompson and other veterans well ahead of February’s trade deadline.
