Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg will sit out until after All-Star Weekend due to a left midfoot sprain, the team announced Wednesday.
The injury occurred during Tuesday night’s road game against the Phoenix Suns and was confirmed by an MRI on Wednesday. As a result, the 19-year-old rookie will miss Thursday’s matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers and will not take part in Friday’s Rising Stars Game at All-Star Weekend.
A team source told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon that Flagg is expected to return immediately after the break. Dallas resumes play on Feb. 20 in Minnesota, and the organization anticipates he will be available for that contest.
Flagg, selected first overall in last year’s draft, is widely regarded as the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year. He is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists this season and has posted nearly 30 points per game during the Mavericks’ recent eight-game losing streak.
