The Dallas Mavericks have elevated guard Ryan Nembhard from a two-way contract to a standard two-year NBA deal, according to his agents Todd Ramasar and Jaafar Choufani of Life Sports Agency, who spoke with ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Nembhard, 22, has appeared in 38 games for Dallas this season, starting 17. He is averaging 6.7 points and 4.9 assists overall; in his starts, those numbers rise to 9.9 points and 6.1 assists while he has connected on 44.4% of his three-point attempts.

The rookie guard has not played since Feb. 5 as he neared the 50-game cap imposed on two-way players. Injuries in the Mavericks’ backcourt earlier in the year opened extended minutes for Nembhard, and the coaching staff opted to keep him active until he approached the limit.

Dallas created a roster spot for the promotion by waiving veteran guard Tyus Jones. The move leaves the club with one open two-way slot that can be filled before the league’s March 4 deadline for two-way signings.

Nembhard went undrafted out of Gonzaga and signed his two-way contract shortly after the draft. Earlier this season he acknowledged the possibility of earning a full deal, saying he would “let my agents and everybody figure that out” while focusing on performing “at a high level” and helping the team win.
