Mavericks Keep Collecting Information on Possible Anthony Davis Deal as Deadline Nears

The Dallas Mavericks remain in data-gathering mode regarding a potential trade for Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis, league sources told the Dallas Hoops Journal.

Reporter Grant Afseth noted that the front office is approaching next month’s trade deadline with “patience and discipline,” weighing any offer against long-term roster goals rather than making a hurried move.

According to those familiar with the team’s thinking, Dallas would require any Davis package to feature at least one high-impact young player who fits with a core centered on rookie forward Cooper Flagg. Thus far, that price tag has been difficult for interested clubs to meet.

Across the league, executives cite three main concerns: Davis’s recent injury history, the size of his current contract and the likelihood that a new team would soon face an expensive extension decision. “You’d have to believe you’re one Anthony Davis away from a title to take that swing,” one Western Conference scout told Afseth.

The Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors have monitored the situation, but each presents obstacles. Detroit’s timeline is tied to Cade Cunningham and upcoming commitments to center Jalen Duren, while Toronto lacks a clear blue-chip prospect despite controlling its future first-round picks.

Internally, the Mavericks have expressed interest in young wings such as Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga and Atlanta’s Zaccharie Risacher, sources said. A direct deal with the Warriors would need to match salaries with contracts the size of Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green, and the Hawks have yet to indicate they are willing to move Risacher.

No league-wide momentum toward a Davis trade has emerged to this point, and Dallas continues to field calls while holding firm on its asking price.
