Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis will miss multiple games after being diagnosed with a mild groin strain, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

Davis left the Christmas Day matchup against the Golden State Warriors early and did not return. According to Charania, the 30-year-old will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, and the Mavericks plan to take a cautious approach before clearing him to play.

Daily Workouts, Careful Timeline

Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News added that Davis will continue daily workouts while rehabbing in an effort to shorten his absence.

The setback comes after Davis sat out 14 consecutive contests earlier this season with a left calf strain. Since returning from that issue, he had averaged 26.3 points and 12.8 rebounds over six games, helping Dallas post a 6-2 record that included victories over the Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons and Denver Nuggets.

Trade Deadline Implications

Charania also noted that league front offices are monitoring Davis closely as the trade deadline approaches. The Mavericks, who dismissed former general manager Nico Harrison earlier in the season and have struggled to gain traction in the Western Conference standings, remain a team of interest around the NBA.
