Veteran broadcaster Mark Jones will leave ESPN after a 36-year tenure but will continue as the Sacramento Kings’ primary television play-by-play voice on NBC Sports California, he confirmed to the Sacramento Bee.
Jones, 64, said he intends to stay with the Kings “for a long, long time” and added that he has been “warmly received” by the organization and its fans. His final assignment for ESPN is Sunday’s matchup between the Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics.
Since joining ESPN in 1988, Jones has called NBA, WNBA and college football games and previously hosted studio programming. He moved to the Kings’ booth in 2020, succeeding longtime announcer Grant Napear. Jones first partnered with Doug Christie, who later transitioned to a coaching role; he now calls games alongside Kayte Christensen.
Jones’ decision provides clarity for Sacramento’s broadcasts heading into the 2024-25 season, ensuring continuity behind the microphone.
