Free-agent guard Malik Beasley has agreed to play for the Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), the club confirmed on social media. The agreement was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The BSN season begins next month. Cangrejeros de Santurce are owned by Grammy-winning artist Bad Bunny, who performed at last Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show.
Beasley, 29, is coming off a standout 2024-25 campaign with the Detroit Pistons, where he averaged 16.3 points, made 319 three-pointers—second-most in the NBA—and appeared in all 82 games. He finished as runner-up for Sixth Man of the Year while helping Detroit improve by 30 wins and reach the playoffs for the first time in five seasons.
Plans for a reported three-year, $42 million contract with Detroit stalled last summer when Beasley was linked to a federal investigation into illegal sports betting. Unlike fellow probe subjects Terry Rozier and Jontay Porter, Beasley has not been arrested or disciplined by the league, but the inquiry has left his NBA status in limbo.
According to Charania, teams in Europe and China have shown interest while Beasley awaits resolution of the investigation. The Puerto Rican stint is expected to keep him closer to home and serve as a showcase ahead of 2026 NBA free agency.
