Free-agent guard Malik Beasley was evicted Wednesday from his downtown Detroit residence after a Michigan court ruled he failed to pay rent totaling $21,500, The Detroit News reported.

The apartment was located in The Stott, a historic high-rise owned by Bedrock Detroit, the real-estate branch of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert’s business group. Court records show the landlord filed two separate lawsuits against Beasley for unpaid rent. After Beasley did not respond to the second complaint, the 36th District Court issued a default judgment that led to the eviction.

The rent dispute adds to a series of financial and legal issues surrounding the 27-year-old. His former representation has filed suit over an alleged unpaid loan, and a dentist reportedly garnished his wages because of outstanding bills. In addition, Beasley is under federal investigation for possible gambling activity involving NBA games. He has not been charged, but the probe halted talks on a reported three-year, $42 million contract with the Detroit Pistons.

On the court, Beasley averaged 16.3 points while shooting 41.6 percent from three-point range during the 2024–25 season. Earlier this week he posted a video message addressing critics amid questions about the gambling investigation.
