ORLANDO, Fla. — The NBA has issued a $25,000 fine to Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs for tossing his mouthpiece toward the spectator area, the league announced Saturday.
The incident occurred with 5:35 remaining in the first quarter of the Magic’s 109-100 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday. Officials assessed Suggs a technical foul on the play.
Suggs, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 draft, is averaging 13.8 points, 5.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals while shooting .435 from the field, .325 from three-point range and .838 at the free-throw line through 46 games this season. The 24-year-old earned All-Defensive Second Team honors two seasons ago.
In the 2024 offseason, Suggs signed a five-year, $150.5 million rookie-scale extension. He is making $35 million in the first year of the descending contract, meaning the fine represents a small fraction of his current salary.
