Orlando Magic guard Anthony Black has been diagnosed with a left lateral abdominal muscle strain, the team announced on social media. An MRI confirmed the injury, and the timeline for his return will hinge on how he responds to treatment.
Black exited Saturday’s game in Minnesota after just two minutes, initially listed with a lower-back strain. The injury occurred when he was fouled by Jaden McDaniels on a drive to the basket; the 22-year-old briefly remained in the contest before heading to the locker room. He did not play in Sunday’s matchup at Milwaukee.
Now in his third NBA season, Black is averaging career highs of 15.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals, making him a candidate for the league’s Most Improved Player award.
Franz Wagner’s Recovery Continues
The team also reported that forward Franz Wagner is progressing from a high ankle sprain. His return date will be set once the ankle responds favorably to rehabilitation. Wagner has appeared in only 28 games this season and has played twice since January 18.
Playoff Push Ahead
Orlando enters a pivotal stretch with six of its next eight games against opponents fighting for postseason positioning. Four straight victories have lifted the Magic to sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Guard Jalen Suggs credited improved defense for the surge, noting, “We’re doing a really good job of keeping [opposing runs] to seven, six points and under, and then doing a great job of responding.”
Alex Morales Earns Two-Way Deal
After four seasons in the G League, 28-year-old guard Alex Morales signed a two-way contract with Orlando last month and made his NBA debut last week. “I’m super grateful,” Morales said. “This is what you work for… I’m going to continue to work hard for this organization.”
Jonathan Isaac Adjusts Contract Protections
Forward Jonathan Isaac agreed to modify the guarantees in his 2026-27 contract. His $14.5 million salary now carries an $8 million guarantee, which becomes fully guaranteed if he remains on the roster past June 28.
