ORLANDO — Wendell Carter Jr. converted a two-handed dunk with 1.4 seconds remaining, capping a 5-0 closing burst that pushed the Orlando Magic past the Dallas Mavericks, 115-114, on Thursday night.

The Mavericks led 114-110 after rookie Cooper Flagg completed a three-point play with 37.3 seconds left. Jalen Suggs immediately trimmed the deficit to one with a corner three, then, following Flagg’s missed jumper on the next possession, found Carter cutting to the rim for the decisive basket.

Tristan da Silva paced Orlando with 19 points off the bench. Suggs finished with 17 points and seven assists, Paolo Banchero collected 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Carter closed with 15 points.

The game marked Flagg’s return after sitting out eight contests with a sprained left foot. The first-year forward totaled 18 points, six assists, five rebounds and four blocks in 26 minutes. “I thought he looked good on both ends,” Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said. “He made big plays down the stretch.”

Klay Thompson led Dallas with 24 points, knocking down seven three-pointers, while Khris Middleton added 19. The Mavericks, who fell to 21-41, failed to attempt a shot on their final possession.
