Orlando forward Paolo Banchero said he returned to the gym the same night he signed his rookie-scale maximum extension in early July, telling Andscape’s Marc J. Spears he “just went back to get some shots up” after inking the five-year deal. The 22-year-old is averaging 23.3 points, a career-best 9.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists through the season’s early stretch.
Guard Jalen Suggs sat out Monday’s game against Portland for left knee injury management and remains unavailable for back-to-backs, ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk reported. Suggs, who had arthroscopic surgery in March to remove a cartilage fragment, logged 20 points and eight rebounds in 29 minutes during Sunday’s 111-107 loss to Boston. He is not listed on the injury report for Wednesday’s matchup with New York, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Offseason acquisition Desmond Bane delivered his first career game-winning buzzer-beater Monday, sinking a three-pointer to seal a 115-112 victory over the Trail Blazers. The guard had missed his previous five attempts from deep in the contest. A 40.7% career three-point shooter, Bane is hitting just 27.7% from beyond the arc this season.
Second-year forward Tristan Da Silva finished with two points and three rebounds in 17 minutes Monday but has generally shown offensive growth, averaging 10.9 points on 46.7% shooting, including 39.2% from long range. As a rookie, he posted 7.2 points per game on 41.2% overall shooting and 33.5% from three.
