The NBA has levied a $25,000 fine against the Orlando Magic for violating the league’s injury reporting rules, the NBA announced Monday.
According to the league, the infraction occurred on Monday when Orlando altered guard Anthony Black’s status several times in the hours leading up to tip-off. Black, sidelined for the previous 16 games with a left lateral abdominal strain, was initially listed as out on the team’s 12:45 p.m. injury report. He was moved to questionable at 2:30 p.m., upgraded to probable at 3:15 p.m., and finally deemed available by 5:00 p.m.
The NBA said the Magic failed to “accurately disclose” Black’s availability. Under league guidelines, a player’s designation must reflect the team’s best assessment at the time of each report; mislabeling a likely participant as out can trigger disciplinary action.
The game in question followed the second night of a back-to-back for Orlando, which had also played on Sunday.
