The NBA has assessed a $50,000 fine to Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic for what the league termed an “inappropriate and unprofessional” gesture directed at a game official, according to Friday’s league announcement.

The episode occurred in the third quarter of the Lakers’ Sunday victory over the New York Knicks. After turning the ball over to Knicks guard Landry Shamet, Doncic attempted to draw an offensive foul on Mohamed Diawara during the ensuing fast break but was whistled for a blocking foul. While still on the floor, he rubbed his fingers together in a money sign while staring at an official, prompting the league’s disciplinary action.

The penalty raises Doncic’s fine total to $95,000 for the season, SportsNet reported. He has also racked up 15 technical fouls, trailing only Phoenix’s Dillon Brooks, who has 16. Under NBA rules, a 16th technical in the regular season triggers an automatic one-game suspension without pay; every two additional technical fouls after that result in another game missed under the same terms.
