Slovenia’s basketball federation confirmed Sunday that national team captain Luka Doncic will participate in Monday’s practice, easing concerns raised by a right knee contusion suffered over the weekend.
The Lakers guard was injured Saturday when a teammate landed on his leg during the third quarter of an exhibition matchup against Latvia. Initial evaluations indicated the issue was minor and would not jeopardize his availability for EuroBasket 2025, which begins later this month.
With clearance to resume full activity, Doncic is expected to suit up for another tune-up game Tuesday, when Slovenia meets Great Britain.
The 26-year-old signed a three-year maximum-salary extension with Los Angeles on August 1, a contract that includes a player option for the 2028-29 season.
Last season, the 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year battled a calf injury that limited him to a career-low 50 appearances — 22 for Dallas and 28 for the Lakers. Despite the setback, he averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 1.8 steals while shooting 45.0 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from three, and 78.2 percent at the line. Doncic has earned First-Team All-NBA honors in each of the past five seasons (2020-24).
