Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James set social media ablaze on Monday, Oct. 6, by declaring that “The Second Decision” will be revealed on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 12 p.m. ET.
The 40-year-old forward posted the teaser on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “The decision of all decisions. October 7th. 12pm EST. #TheSecondDecision,” alongside a short video clip. He did not provide any further details.
The message immediately sparked speculation that James could be preparing to announce his retirement, either effective immediately or at the end of the current season. James turns 41 in late December and remains widely regarded as a top-15 player in the NBA; some observers still place him in the league’s top 10.
James is entering his third season alongside Luka Dončić, who has increasingly become the focal point of the Lakers’ offense. Team success is expected to hinge on the combined production of Dončić and James—a substantial burden for the veteran forward as he begins his 22nd NBA campaign.
