Los Angeles Lakers fans rushed to secondary-market sites Monday after LeBron James hinted at an announcement he called “The Second Decision,” driving ticket costs for the club’s 2025-26 home finale skyward.
Moments after the 40-year-old forward posted on X that “The Second Decision” would be unveiled Tuesday, the least-expensive seat for the April 12, 2026 matchup against the Utah Jazz leapt from $82 to $580, according to ESPN’s Kalan Hooks. Listings on Vivid Seats now open at $760 for a pair.
The sudden surge reflects speculation that the coming season could be James’s last. While addressing reporters last week, the four-time MVP acknowledged he is nearing the end of his career but said he remains focused on the present.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to play the game that I love for another season,” James said. “However the journey lays out this year, I’m super-invested because I don’t know when the end is. I know it’s a lot sooner than later.”
Entering an NBA-record 23rd season—his eighth with the Lakers—James will open the campaign Oct. 21 against Golden State. “Age is kind of just a number, but it is reality, too,” he added. “You look at the history of the game, there’s not been many guys at my age, especially going into Year 23, that have been able to play at a level like that.”
James’s post, published Oct. 6 and stamped for a noon EST reveal on Oct. 7, offered no further details about what the announcement entails.
