LeBron James Applauds Cavaliers for Acquiring James Harden: “They’re Going for It”

Lakers forward LeBron James voiced strong support for the Cleveland Cavaliers after the club landed James Harden at the trade deadline, calling the move a clear signal of championship intent.

During the latest episode of his “Mind the Game” podcast, co-hosted with Steve Nash, James said Cleveland “needed another playmaker” and applauded the front office for securing the 10-time All-Star. The Cavaliers obtained Harden from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Darius Garland and a second-round draft pick.

“They’re going for it,” James said. “They felt like they needed another playmaker, someone that’s been there before. It gives Donovan Mitchell another ball-handler who can make shots late in the game.”

Harden, still pursuing his first NBA championship, joins Mitchell in a high-profile backcourt as Cleveland pushes deeper into the Eastern Conference race.

Additional Deadline Moves Earn Praise

James also highlighted the Cavaliers’ other deadline additions: point guard Dennis Schröder and guard Keon Ellis, acquired through a multi-team deal involving the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls.

“Schröder is a former teammate of mine—you know he’s going to compete every single night,” James said. “And Keon Ellis, that guy competes. Makes shots. Those guys are going to be really, really good for that team.”

James’ comments carry extra weight given his history in Cleveland and ongoing speculation about the possibility of a future return. While his plans remain uncertain, the four-time champion has repeatedly stated that he intends to finish his career on a contender.
