LeBron James appeared in his 1,611th NBA contest on Thursday night, equaling Hall of Famer Robert Parish for the most games played in league history. The 38-year-old forward finished with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat, 134-126, at Kaseya Center.
The milestone came less than 24 hours after the Lakers faced the Rockets in Houston. Following a cross-country flight and a 5 a.m. hotel check-in, James still suited up despite continued treatment on his left foot.
“If anyone is deserving of breaking the iron-man record, I would say LeBron James is, because he takes such good care of himself,” Parish told ESPN.
James, now in his 23rd NBA season, said durability remains at the core of his leadership. “It’s not something I set out to do,” he noted. “You can’t be a leader if you’re not available to your teammates.”
Parish added, “They got to make room for LeBron,” acknowledging James’s ongoing production at an All-Star level.
