Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James acknowledged this week that, despite cherishing the NBA’s Christmas Day spotlight, he would rather spend the holiday at home with loved ones.
Speaking ahead of what will be his 20th Christmas Day appearance—the most in league history—James told reporters, via Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints, that suiting up on Dec. 25 is both a privilege and a sacrifice. “I’d much rather be at home with my family,” he said. “But it’s the game that I love. It’s a game I watched when I was a kid on Christmas Day, watching a lot of the greatest play the game on Christmas. It’s always been an honor to play it.”
James added that when the NBA schedules the Lakers for the holiday, he intends to deliver. “Our number is called, so we have to go out and perform, and I look forward to it,” he stated.
The Lakers will host the Houston Rockets at 8 p.m. EST on Christmas Day, continuing a tradition that regularly places marquee teams and players in the national spotlight.
