The Golden State Warriors are actively surveying the market for forward Jonathan Kuminga ahead of the NBA’s Feb. 5 trade deadline, league sources told Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

According to Stein, finding a viable deal for the 21-year-old remains a front-burner issue in San Francisco. Still, team officials are prepared to keep Kuminga past the deadline if no favorable proposal emerges, with an eye on rebuilding his value during the offseason.

Injury complicates showcase plan

Before Kuminga injured his left ankle and knee on Thursday, Golden State intended to increase his minutes to boost his trade profile. Instead, the forward sat out Saturday’s road game against the Minnesota Timberwolves because of left knee soreness, ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported.

Heat-centered concept under discussion

One scenario circulating among executives involves a package that would send Kuminga to the Miami Heat in a deal centered on Andrew Wiggins. Golden State is said to be intrigued by the framework, but salary constraints make the math difficult.

Wiggins’ contract exceeds Kuminga’s, and the Warriors are pressed up against the league’s second tax apron. Any realistic swap would require additional outgoing salary and meticulous cap navigation, sources indicated.

For now, conversations continue, various configurations are being tested, and the Warriors are keeping all options open as the deadline approaches. No agreement is imminent, and team officials acknowledge that a resolution may not surface until closer to Feb. 5—if at all.
