NBA on Prime reporter Chris Haynes said the Golden State Warriors are weighing a trade proposal for Anthony Davis, but the Dallas Mavericks are said to be unimpressed with Golden State’s assets. Haynes added that a third team might be required to complete any deal involving the 10-time All-Star.
Even if Davis proves unattainable, the Warriors are still targeting a defensive-minded center ahead of the February trade deadline, according to Haynes.
Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reported that the Warriors, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks have all expressed interest in acquiring the 32-year-old big man. Regardless of where he plays next season, Davis is expected to seek a lucrative long-term extension when he becomes eligible in August, multiple outlets have confirmed.
Davis is currently sidelined by a groin strain. He was initially listed as questionable for Saturday’s game in Sacramento but has since been ruled out. “Hopefully, it’s not long,” head coach Jason Kidd told reporters.
The Hawks are described as “very intrigued” by a potential Davis deal. League sources cited by Afseth believe Atlanta could consider a major roster shake-up after dropping five straight games and posting a 2-9 record in December.
Afseth outlined one theoretical Hawks offer built around Kristaps Porzingis (expiring $30.7 million), Luke Kennard (expiring $11 million) and second-year forward Zaccharie Risacher ($13.2 million). The combined salaries nearly match Davis’s $54.1 million figure, making the proposal financially feasible. Dallas would likely need to add a smaller contract or two to remain under the league’s second-apron hard cap.
Kennard, signed to a one-year deal over the summer, has not delivered the impact Atlanta hoped for; the veteran guard registered his first DNP-CD during Friday’s loss to Miami.
