The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly expanding their list of potential trade targets and have an eye on Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins, according to several recent reports.
The shift in approach follows guard Luka Doncic’s standout EuroBasket run and his newly signed three-year extension with Los Angeles. The Athletic’s Dan Woike wrote that the front office is now more open to absorbing long-term salary commitments than it was earlier in the summer.
Veteran insider Marc Stein noted that Wiggins, 30, is exactly the type of two-way wing the Lakers would pursue if he becomes available. The 6-foot-7 forward is owed $28.2 million this season and holds a $30.2 million player option for the 2026-27 campaign. Last year, split between Golden State and Miami, he averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 37.4 percent from three-point range.
For now, Miami intends to keep Wiggins. Head coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters in Las Vegas that the former No. 1 overall pick is already training in South Florida and getting his family settled. However, the Lakers are believed to be monitoring the situation closely in case the Heat seek greater financial flexibility.
Los Angeles has a collection of short-term contracts that could be packaged in a trade and remains in the market for perimeter defenders who can stretch the floor—criteria Wiggins meets. While no deal appears imminent, league sources say the Lakers will continue to assess whether an opportunity to land Wiggins materializes before or during the upcoming season.
