Inside front-office discussions, New Orleans Pelicans forwards Herbert Jones and Trey Murphy III are viewed as ideal acquisitions for Los Angeles, Stein noted. However, multiple executives believe the Pelicans have little interest in moving either player before the upcoming trade deadline.
Even if one of those wings became available, the Lakers are not expected to pursue a deal that would jeopardize their long-term salary flexibility unless the move clearly upgrades the roster.
