The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Jarron Cumberland and waived forward Arthur Kaluma, the team announced on September 25.
Reporter Dan Woike of The Athletic first noted the move, indicating that Cumberland is expected to receive an Exhibit 10 contract, the same type of deal Kaluma held before being released.
Cumberland, 28, brings brief NBA experience to camp. He signed a 10-day contract with the Portland Trail Blazers in December 2021 and appeared in three games. The 6-foot-5 guard played four seasons at Cincinnati from 2016-20, averaging 13.4 points per game, and spent last season with the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League affiliate, where he averaged 15.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists while shooting 42.6 percent from three in 38 regular-season contests.
The transaction keeps Los Angeles at the offseason roster limit of 21 players. The club now lists 14 players on standard guaranteed contracts, two on two-way deals and five—including Cumberland—on Exhibit 10 agreements (joining Eric Dixon, Augustus Marciulionis, RJ Davis and Kylor Kelley).
Cumberland will have an opportunity in training camp to compete for the Lakers’ lone open two-way slot. If he is waived and spends at least 60 days with the team’s G League affiliate, he would be eligible for a bonus of up to $85,300.
