Luka Dončić has reportedly dropped more than 30 pounds since the end of last season, according to multiple outlets in Slovenia and a report from Men’s Health.

The Los Angeles Lakers guard/forward adopted a gluten-free, low-sugar diet and began an intermittent fasting routine aimed at reducing inflammation and improving recovery. Slovenian coverage placed the weight loss at 14 kilograms (approximately 31 pounds) compared with his condition one year ago.

The change in physique comes shortly after the Lakers signed the five-time All-Star to a three-year, $165 million contract extension last weekend. Dončić also played a key role in persuading center Deandre Ayton and guard Marcus Smart to join Los Angeles during the current offseason.

Acquired from the Dallas Mavericks midway through last season, Dončić appeared in 28 regular-season games for Los Angeles, averaging 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists while shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 37.9 percent from three-point range and 79.1 percent at the free-throw line.

In the first-round playoff matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Slovenian star recorded 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists per contest. The Lakers fell in five games.

Across his career with Dallas and Los Angeles, Dončić carries averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists, ranking third in NBA history in scoring average.

Head coach JJ Redick is expected to open the 2025-26 season with a starting lineup of Dončić, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, LeBron James and Ayton.

Dončić’s manager, Lara Beth Seager, told Dan Woike of The Athletic that the 26-year-old has moved past the emotions of last season’s trade from Dallas and is focused solely on winning in Los Angeles. “He wants to win where he is, and it’s important that we’re working together with the team so we’re not waiting,” Seager said.
