Luka Doncic will be out for an undetermined period after suffering a left hamstring injury, ESPN’s Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin reported. The Los Angeles Lakers guard is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season.

Team officials have not provided a timetable for Doncic’s return beyond the regular season, leaving his playoff availability unclear.

The setback arrives as Los Angeles pushes toward the postseason and Doncic continues one of the league’s most productive campaigns. He has been the NBA’s leading scorer and was a prominent candidate for several end-of-season awards.

Because Doncic has appeared in 64 games, the injury likely prevents him from meeting the 65-game minimum required for All-NBA recognition. His agent, Bill Duffy, told ESPN that he plans to file an “Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge” to contest the rule.

“This season, Luka Dončić has performed at a historic level, leading the league in scoring, carrying the Lakers to third place in the Western Conference and placing himself in the middle of one of the most tightly contested MVP races in memory,” Duffy said. “To ensure that Luka’s incredible accomplishments this season are rightly honored and he can be considered for the league’s end-of-season awards, we intend to apply for an Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge to the 65-game rule.”

Duffy noted that Doncic missed two games earlier this season to attend the birth of his second child in Slovenia. The guard returned to action two days later, emphasizing what Duffy called Doncic’s commitment to the team and the league.

In Doncic’s absence, the Lakers are expected to rely on their bench and reserve rotation as they finalize preparations for the postseason.
