Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James is considered day-to-day, head coach JJ Redick said Monday, after the veteran sat out the team’s practice session.
James, 41, has missed the Lakers’ past two games—wins over the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks—while managing a left elbow contusion and chronic arthritis in his left foot. The elbow injury occurred during Thursday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets.
According to ESPN, the four-time MVP completed an on-court workout Sunday morning, but lingering soreness in the foot prompted the club to hold him out of subsequent activity, including Monday’s practice.
The back-to-back absences are James’s first since he returned from a bout with sciatica earlier this season. Despite the current setback, he is averaging 21.4 points on 50.4 percent shooting, along with 7.0 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 44 appearances.
Although unavailable for drills, James did attend the team’s film session Monday, where Redick emphasized defensive adjustments. “Sometimes, when you’re winning you can forget to clean up stuff,” the coach told reporters, noting the meeting focused on areas where defensive “slippage” had occurred.
Forward Jake LaRavia added that the Lakers’ defense has improved over the past several weeks, a trend highlighted during the review of Sunday’s victory at Madison Square Garden. Over their last 10 outings, Los Angeles ranks 12th in defensive rating and 14th since mid-January, a notable climb from earlier struggles.
