ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that LeBron James and his agent, Rich Paul, intend to meet with Los Angeles Lakers governor Jeanie Buss in the coming days to address lingering tension between the star forward and the organization.

According to Windhorst, Buss was never fully comfortable with the narrative that James, who joined the franchise in 2018, would single-handedly rescue a struggling team. The upcoming sit-down is expected to focus on “smoothing over scar tissue” that has built up behind the scenes.

James, 41, is headed toward unrestricted free agency this summer and has not ruled out retirement. His decision on whether to return for a 22nd NBA season will likely depend on how aligned he feels with the club’s direction after the meeting.

Asked about recent reports detailing friction, James brushed them aside. “I’m 41 years old. I watch golf every day,” he said. “I don’t care how somebody feels about me.”

Since James’ arrival, the Lakers have won one championship (2020) while also navigating repeated roster overhauls and front-office second-guesses. The forthcoming conversation with Buss is viewed inside the organization as pivotal to clarifying the next steps for both sides.
