The Los Angeles Lakers have extended head coach J.J. Redick for two more seasons, ESPN’s Shams Charania said on NBA Today. The move tacks on additional years to the four-year contract Redick signed in 2024, keeping him under contract through the 2029/30 campaign.

According to Charania, Redick will earn a total of $45 million over the next five seasons. His original four-year agreement was valued at roughly $32 million. With one year already completed, the extension appears to add close to $10 million annually—up from the approximately $8 million per year in his initial deal.

Lakers Roster Decisions Ahead

Redick told reporters he has not finalized a starting lineup for the upcoming season. “I haven’t spent much time thinking about the starting lineup yet, but I feel there are seven to eight starting-caliber players on the roster,” he said. “We will know the official starters once training camp starts.”

Among the storylines outlined by Khobi Price of the Orange County Register are which players will complete the first unit and who will claim the primary backup-center role. Law Murray of The Athletic also detailed how the roster has evolved since last year.

Clippers Await Leonard’s First Comments

Across town, the principal topic for the Los Angeles Clippers remains the NBA’s investigation into possible salary-cap circumvention tied to Kawhi Leonard. Team owner Steve Ballmer has already met with league officials, but Leonard has not yet addressed the matter. With media day approaching, he is expected to speak publicly for the first time on the issue, Murray reports.

Separate features in The Athletic examine Leonard’s endorsement deal with Aspiration—contrasting it with other NBA sponsorship arrangements—and profile Dennis Robertson, also known as Uncle Dennis, a central figure in the league’s probe.
