Golden State forward Jonathan Kuminga continues to press for a trade and hopes to be moved before the NBA’s Feb. 5 deadline, according to multiple reports.
Chris Haynes of NBA on Prime said Kuminga “has no desire” to stay with the Warriors, believing his relationship with head coach Steve Kerr is beyond repair and that he feels underappreciated inside the organization.
The 21-year-old’s push to leave surfaced the same night he exited Thursday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks after twisting his left ankle and hyperextending his left knee. The club does not consider the injuries serious, but an MRI has been scheduled, ESPN’s Marc Stein reported.
Kuminga’s on-court production has remained steady amid the uncertainty. He scored 20 points in 21 minutes on Tuesday and posted 10 points, two assists and two steals in nine minutes before leaving Thursday’s contest.
Kerr told reporters the forward will stay in the regular rotation, but Kuminga is said to be firm in his wish to depart.
General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. described the current trade market as “lukewarm” earlier this week. League executives also believe Golden State is unwilling to absorb unfavorable long-term contracts in any exchange involving Kuminga, tempering the club’s leverage as the deadline approaches.
