Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga exited Thursday’s matchup with the Dallas Mavericks after twisting his left ankle and hyperextending his left knee during a second-quarter drive, multiple outlets reported.
Anthony Slater of The Athletic noted that neither injury is considered serious. Marc Stein added that the 23-year-old will undergo an MRI on Friday to confirm the initial assessment.
Before leaving the floor, Kuminga produced 10 points, two assists and two steals in nine minutes. Two nights earlier, he logged 20 points and five rebounds in 21 minutes against the Toronto Raptors.
Despite the injuries, Kuminga has not backed off his demand to be dealt before the trade deadline. During an NBA on Prime broadcast, Chris Haynes reported that the third-year forward views his relationship with head coach Steve Kerr as “fractured beyond repair” and feels the organization has not supported him.
Kerr told reporters before Thursday’s game that Kuminga would remain part of the rotation. However, Haynes said the player “very much” hopes to be moved and that Golden State could wait until the off-season to find a deal, in part because the club is unwilling to take on additional salary for next year.
General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. described the market for Kuminga as “cool” earlier this week, remarking, “When there’s a demand, there needs to be a demand on the market. So we’ll see how that unfolds.”
