Forward Jonathan Kuminga rejoined the Golden State Warriors’ rotation on Tuesday night and delivered 20 points, yet the team fell 145-127 to the Toronto Raptors at Chase Center.

Kuminga had not appeared in a game for more than two weeks because of a coach’s decision. His re-entry came one day after Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending ACL injury, prompting head coach Steve Kerr to say he would rely more heavily on his bench.

The 21-year-old checked in early in the second quarter to a loud ovation and shot 7-for-10 in 21 minutes, adding five rebounds and two assists. Kerr had indicated before tip-off that the forward was likely to see the floor under the new circumstances.

Golden State’s defense struggled throughout, allowing 145 points in the lopsided loss. How long Kuminga remains a regular part of Kerr’s rotation will become clearer over the coming weeks as the Warriors adjust to playing without Butler.
