The Chicago Bulls are no longer viewed as a realistic sign-and-trade partner for Golden State Warriors restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga after securing their own restricted free agent, Josh Giddey, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. While a deal appears unlikely this summer, league sources told Fischer that Chicago could emerge as a serious suitor in 2026, when the Bulls are projected to have substantial salary-cap space.

The 22-year-old forward is weighing whether to accept an $8 million qualifying offer from Golden State. Signing the one-year tender would grant Kuminga an implicit no-trade clause for the coming season and allow him to reach unrestricted free agency in 2026, when several clubs are expected to hold cap room. Kuminga prefers a longer agreement, but the Warriors have reportedly held firm on a two-year, $45 million proposal that carries a team option for the second season.

Efforts to narrow the gap between the two sides intensified this week, ESPN’s Anthony Slater said on NBA Today. People familiar with the negotiations told Fischer they believe progress could be made within the next week.

Knicks Pass on Bryant, Add Backcourt and Wing Depth

New York considered signing free-agent center Thomas Bryant but ultimately chose to bolster its perimeter rotation, per Fischer. The Knicks reached nonguaranteed agreements this week with guards Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet and wing Garrison Mathews. All three veterans will compete for roster spots during training camp.

Sixers Weigh Options on Drummond and Oubre

The Philadelphia 76ers have made center Andre Drummond and forward Kelly Oubre Jr. available, though there is no mandate to move either player, Fischer reports. Offloading both contracts without taking salary back would help Philadelphia’s cap and tax outlook as the front office works to re-sign restricted free agent Quentin Grimes.

Kings Waive Terence Davis

Sacramento released guard Terence Davis, who held a nonguaranteed deal. A league source told The Stein Line the Kings would have kept Davis only if they anticipated needing his expiring salary in a trade before the season.

FIBA Clearance Pending for Luka Garza

Boston Celtics big man Luka Garza aimed to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina at this year’s EuroBasket tournament but has yet to receive FIBA approval, Fischer writes. His appeal will be heard once EuroBasket concludes; a favorable ruling would make Garza eligible for Bosnia’s 2027 World Cup squad.
