Knicks Exploring Deals for Sochan, Alvarado and Missi Ahead of Deadline

The New York Knicks are evaluating trade scenarios for Jeremy Sochan, Jose Alvarado and Yves Missi as the Feb. deadline approaches, according to a report from Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
Each potential acquisition would address a different need in head coach Tom Thibodeau’s second unit. Sochan, earning $7.1 million this season and headed for restricted free agency, has slipped out of San Antonio’s rotation but remains valued for his size and defensive versatility despite inconsistent perimeter shooting.
Alvarado, viewed as a solution to New York’s ongoing search for a steady backup to Jalen Brunson, is averaging 7.9 points and 3.2 assists in 21.9 minutes for New Orleans. The scrappy guard holds a $4.5 million team option for 2026-27.
Missi, still on his rookie contract with next season’s $3.5 million option already exercised, would give the Knicks a developing center who may project as a future starter. After opening 67 games as a Pelicans rookie, the 21-year-old is logging 19.1 minutes this year while producing 5.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.
To facilitate any deal, New York has been searching for ways to move forward Guerschon Yabusele, whose $5.775 million option for 2026-27 looms after an underwhelming stint. Both the Spurs and Pelicans have discussed Yabusele with the Knicks, per the report.
Siegel adds that Dallas forward Naji Marshall is another Knicks target, though league-wide interest and the Mavericks’ steep asking price make such a move less likely.
Salary-cap constraints complicate New York’s efforts. The club is hard-capped and sits roughly $300,000 below the second tax apron, preventing it from absorbing more salary than it sends out. The Knicks also carry 14 players on standard contracts, limiting flexibility in multi-player swaps.
