The New York Knicks intend to waive swingman Garrison Mathews before Saturday afternoon, according to SNY’s Ian Begley. Stefan Bondy of the New York Post separately confirmed the decision.

Team sources told Begley the 27-year-old impressed during training camp and preseason, yet New York’s second-apron hard cap left room for only one veteran minimum contract. Landry Shamet, long considered the favorite for that slot, is now viewed as an even surer bet to remain on the roster.

Mathews, a six-year NBA veteran who spent the past two-plus seasons with Atlanta, is expected to attract interest from clubs seeking perimeter shooting help.

Nets Add Cattoor

Across town, the Brooklyn Nets announced the signing of guard Hunter Cattoor. The 6’3” sharpshooter played five seasons at Virginia Tech before going undrafted in 2024.

The 24-year-old most recently averaged 8.5 points and hit 37.2% of his three-point attempts in 25 games with BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque of France’s top league. Cattoor also appeared for Cleveland’s squad at the 2025 Las Vegas Summer League.
