The New York Knicks considered signing free-agent center Thomas Bryant, yet ultimately focused on their perimeter, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Instead of adding frontcourt size, the club agreed to non-guaranteed contracts with guards Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet and wing Garrison Mathews. All three are expected to compete for a single roster spot during training camp.
New York currently holds 12 guaranteed deals and only enough room under the second tax apron to carry one veteran-minimum player in the 13th slot. The organization plans to use the 14th spot on second-round pick Mohamed Diawara, leaving Brogdon, Shamet and Mathews vying for the lone vacancy.
Fischer reported that Bryant impressed the Knicks during recent open-gym sessions, so the 26-year-old center could resurface as an option if the team later seeks depth behind Mitchell Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein.
